OUR FLAG. SHOW ME YOUR EMBASSY. ALL ABOUT FLAG ETIQUETTE

Well here it is…our new flag, specially designed by my friends at Pentagram. Looks great doesn’t it…somehow familiar but with a noble presence that suggests I’m serious about this whole country starting business.

Calling all citizens.
Show me your embassy.

So... I would like to see your embassies. All you have to do is take a picture of you and your embassy and send it, with your rough location (like Southsea for example) to one of my addressess embassy@citizensrequired.com.
The best ones will go one line for next week in the embassy gallery.

Flag etiquette
Unlike flying a kite, flying a flag is not to be taken lightly.. Most countries have a Flag Etiquette – a list of do’s and don’t’s of how the flag should be displayed. Here are a few that I have been considering for my new flag.

WHAT TO DO & WHAT NOT TO DO WITH OUR FLAG
  1. The flag should never be allowed to drag along the ground. For a start it will get mucky and I can’t guarantee that the colours won’t run when you come to wash it.
  2. The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously.
  3. The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used or stored in any manner which will permit it to be easily torn, soiled or damaged in any way.
  4. The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
  5. Never use the flag as a covering or drapes for the ceiling but curtains might work, or a tea-towel might be nice?
  6. When the flag is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably via flag disposal ceremonies.
  7. When a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed twenty-four hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
  8. When the flag is raised or lowered, or when it is carried past in a parade or review, all present should face the Flag, men should remove their hats and all should remain silent.

Danny's flag
Our new flag – be sure to download it, print it out and hang it with pride. It should always be this way up.

Flag in loo - WRONG
Don’t fly the flag in inappropriate places, like the ladies toilet at work for example.

Upside down flag - WRONG
Don’t fly the flag upside down and next to other confusing icons

Flag held sidewards - WRONG
The flag is still the wrong way up

Flag held the other way up - WRONG
Nope...still the wrong way up

Flag displayed correctly - CORRECT
That’s more like it!

Flag in shrine - CORRECT
A shrine... is even better, but be careful about the candles

Flag in Bed shrine - CORRECT
A bedside shrine just about tops the whole lot
