You see like Queen Elizabeth in the UK, I am officially a monarch, which according to the dictionary makes everyone that joins my country a ‘subject’. Under this traditional definition you are ‘subject’ to my rules and my every whim, and have no rights whatsoever. So for example, I can decide on a Tuesday that everyone should wear pink and they have to do it…brilliant. Although I admit this might be considered less fun by my subjects.
Now the British people, despite legally being subjects, have over the years managed to get themselves some rights, and by doing so have essentially transformed themselves into citizens. The British government has even developed a Citizenship Ceremony. Yet there is still no defining document that says that the British population are not subjects to the Queen
Like the U.K I want my population to have rights, to be able to live reasonably freely, to make decisions and voice their opinions about things that concern them. I too want to give power to the people but still retain the right as monarch to make the final decision. I would ask for your opinion but if I did put it to the vote, that would automatically make you all citizens!
I suppose I want my people to be part citizen and part subject – ‘citi-jects’ - but this sounds a bit too much like ‘rejects’ to me, and ‘sub-zens’ isn’t much better either, so maybe I’ll just keep it simple and stick with ‘citizens’. Yes, after much deliberation I have decided that you guys are definitely going to be citizens…
I, King Danny The First, hereby pronounce that everyone who joins my country is to be a citizen of this aforesaid country.
